AirPrint is a user friendly technology that allows one to print material without having to install any drivers or setting up any special printer configurations. The printing can be carried out while one is surfing the net or using some other third-party application. The software makes it easy to print out copies of presentations or movie tickets with equal ease from the Apple unit.
There is a “print” icon under the “Send To” icon from where the command can be given. The navigation bar shows the options for the number of copies, the printer the document is to be printed on, whether it should be single or double sided, and it even asks for the specific range of pages that should be printed. The technology is very advanced and allows one to print more than one item at the same time or cancel a print before it goes to the printer.
The software does, however, have its limitations. It will not work with just any printer that is physically connected to a computer through a USB port. In order to be able to use the software, one has to choose from one of the only handful of wirelessly connectable printers supporting the software. That means not everyone can benefit from the software. Currently, there are only about a dozen wireless printers available and all are from HP that can make use of the software.
1. The first printer capable of AirPrint is the HP Photosmart AiO. It is an al-in-one printer that after being installed on the computer will automatically show an ePrinting icon. Using the icon, one has to register at the HP ePrintCenter website and get an e-mail address for the printer. Upon completing the process, one can print copies by choosing from the fifteen supported file formats. Simply attach the material to be copied and mail it to the ePrint address provided. Now one can get prints from their favorite i-gadget when they are away from home. Whether it is printing a favorite game or getting the weather forecast, all is possible. The print quality is good even when printing photographs from a digital camera.
2. The Photosmart Plus-AiO is a more advanced version of the HP Photosmart AiO. It lets the user scan and makes copies, in addition to printing remotely. It supports a 125 sheet paper tray and allows the loading of up to 20 photos. The printer does not have a USB port in case one is thinking of using memory sticks, but does come with a card reader. The lid of the scanner is nice and sturdy, but the device will not be suitable for printing from large magazines or books. Everything considered, it is a handy little device.
Next, there is a line of three AirPrint capable printers. Collectively, the line is known as the Photosmart line.
4) HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-AiO (C410a)
5) HP Photosmart eStation All-in-One (C510)
Each comes with a unique set of functions like extra speed, capacity, faxing abilities, or browsing directly from the printer. The most advanced of these printers comes with a removable touch-screen and a flatbed scanner that’s capable to do 3D scanning. One can choose the most appropriate printer, depending on the individual needs.
The last set of AirPrint capable printers includes these:
6) HP LaserJet Pro M1536DNF
7) HP LaserJet Pro CP1525NW
8) HP LaserJet Pro CM1415FNW
9) HP LaserJet Pro CP1525NW
Each needs to be upgraded with the AirPrint firmware before becoming fully compatible. This set of printers is energy efficient and capable of delivering very high quality photos as well as documents, in addition to the benefit of remote printing.
